Wow I haven’t posted in 3 months! I’ve been arting here and there, just didn’t get around posting any. I shall fix that soon. But for now, have some thumbnails I did for a reinterpretation of “The Little Match Girl”, original story by Hans Andersen. For some reason of all the fairytales I’ve read as a child, this is one of the few that really stuck with me.

Instead of Halloween partying this weekend I went painting at Paintlounge again, which has become a monthly thing. I haven’t really been making art lately, so it was nice getting my hands dirty with acrylics again! These are roses that grew in my backyard this summer. They smelled nice and were short-lived in my glass vase, but at least I’ve now immortalized them twice over in a photo and a painting. :D

Acrylics on 16″ x 20″ canvas, 2.5 hours
My Macbook Pro’s HDD crapped out on me 2 weeks ago, sob. So I took the chance and upgraded to a SSD and doubled the memory, much cheaper alternative to buying a new Mac and it works like a champ! Woot!! I’ll be doing more digital stuff now that I have a working computer again, even though traditional painting is super fun.

This was my September monthly painting. I didn’t post it because I’ve been meaning to take a better picture of it, but I’m too lazy for that so you’ll have to settle for the blinding yellow under one of those Instagram filters. The real thing is really much easier on the eyes.

Zhen Huan again. I like painting Zhen Huan but moreover I like painting imperial China people in an oil painting style because historically that never happened until late Qing (late 1890s) when Empress Dowager Cixi finally started accepting more of the Western world. (This is faux oil painting though, Photoshop ftw lolol.)

I took a break from drawing in this sketchbook for a month (was using a bigger one), but now I’m at it again coz most of my stuff lately have been digital. Zhen Huan again still in badass mode, and some Queen Elizabeth I Cate Blanchett to add to the badass girls thing. (I keep drawing Kate WIntlset for some reason so I thought of my next favourite movies — “Elizabeth” and “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” — and, damn it, it’s also a “Cate” lol.)

Also some terrible eyeballed perspective and creeping on people in Second Cup today. Drawing from photos is easier but drawing from life is more fun and looks livelier. The last guy on the laptop totally has the stereotypical ECE prof look lol.

And…. hehe, the importance of fine details, like the eyeballs. :D
