gouache

Here’s my 2 extremely questionable attempts at using gouache. I’ve never used gouache before, and when I cracked open my set I was surprised (or not…) to find it’s actually expired since 2010 LOL. Still worked fine though, besides a tube of navy that totally dried up (but I had another blue that was fine so I just mixed my own navy) and somehow my black and yellow mixed together gives me a very yellowish green lol… Gouache wasn’t as opaque as I expected even if I don’t use any water (or maybe because it’s expired?) buuuut I like the fact that I can work its transparency to my liking. My colour mixing skills were never that great, probably why I always struggled with acrylics. I came to appreciate Photoshop so much while painting these…
The sunflower is from my front yard and the house is me creeping on my neighbour directly across. Sketchbook is about 9″ x 12″ so I thought I had decent space for some details, but my shaky and impatient hands kept painting as if I was in Photoshop so I made messy mistakes all over the place that were too troublesome to fix. Next time next time. It’s kinda fun to get away from the computer to paint and feel like a ~real artist~ lol.
(MAYBE IF I GET GOOD ENOUGH I CAN DO PORTRAITS IN GOUACHE)
